Muncy's first showing at Triple-A as a 21-year-old was quite impressive last season, but a nagging hand injury limited him to 50 games in the Pacific Coast League and prevented a likely 2024 big-league debut. Muncy was drafted 25th overall out of high school in 2021, and he logged strikeout rates of 29.5 percent or higher at every early assignment of his career until he reached Double-A in 2023 and struck out at a 23.2 percent clip. Last year, he slashed .277/.374/.491 with eight home runs, four steals and a 24.6 percent strikeout rate as the second-youngest player to get 200-plus plate appearances in the PCL (behind Marlins first baseman Deyvison De Los Santos). Muncy's defensive versatility and above-average throwing arm should buy him playing time this summer for the Athletics, as he can play all over the diamond and may get a chance to prove he's the team's third baseman of the future. He isn't flashy, but Muncy has above-average power and speed, which could lead to 25-homer/15-steal steal seasons at peak. Read Past Outlooks

Muncy went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Blue Jays.

Analysis
Muncy has been able to extend his run as a lineup regular while Jacob Wilson (hand) has missed the last three games. The homer was Muncy's fourth over nine contests in July and his ninth long ball of the year. The infielder is at a .224/.267/.410 slash line with 23 RBI, 17 runs scored and one stolen base across 195 plate appearances. Muncy may have to settle for a utility role when the Athletics are closer to full strength in the infield, though they could reassign him to Triple-A Las Vegas to receive more consistent playing time.
