2025 Fantasy Outlook
Siani looked to be, at best, fourth in the pecking order in center field for the Cardinals at the outset of spring training, but injuries to Tommy Edman and Dylan Carlson and struggles by Victor Scott led to Siani taking over in center as the primary guy versus righties before the end of April. He proved to be a defensive wizard from the jump, but Siani's work at the plate was rough. Among 286 players with at least 300 plate appearances, Siani's .570 OPS ranked 282nd and his wRC+ of 64 tied for 277th. His 27.5 percent strikeout rate was higher than his 22.6 percent hard-hit rate, which is difficult to pull off. Siani did steal 20 bases in 23 chances and often tallied gaudy stolen-base totals in the minors. The 25-year-old could get another shot at regular reps in center field in 2025, but from a fantasy perspective he would be a desperation speed play. Read Past Outlooks

Starting season as reserve
Siani will fill a reserve role in the outfield to begin the season with Victor Scott having emerged as the Cardinals' starting center fielder, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
ANALYSIS
Siani and Scott competed for the starting role in center field this spring, and Scott pulled away with outstanding numbers during the exhibition slate, while Siani has posted an ugly .334 OPS over 47 plate appearances. Siani will still make the Opening Day roster, but he's slated to work as the Cardinals' fourth outfielder. Both Scott and Siani are left-handed batters, so if Scott performs well, he could be in the lineup nearly every day against both righties and lefties.

Much has been decided in the National League over the last few days, including the Giants' fifth starter job, which was won by Landen Roupp.

The National League Central features several closer spots up for grabs and multiple rookies hoping to break camp with starting spots, including the Cubs' Matt Shaw.

Todd Zola explains how projected playing time and a skills-based approach helps him identify upside plays late in a draft, as well as leading him to put Aaron Judge at the top of his personal rankings.
2019 Fantasy Outlook
It took $2 million to get Siani to rescind his commitment to Virginia, almost four times the recommended slot value of the 109th overall pick in last year's draft. The early returns on the investment were strong for Cincinnati, with Siani handling himself just fine offensively (98 wRC+) in the Appy League. He just needs to be close to average from the left side of the plate in order to make it long term, as his defense in center field and throwing arm are both plus. If he can hit enough to maintain a starting role in the major leagues, Siani should be able to swipe 20-plus bases pretty easily. He's a long ways off at 19 and power is not a big part of this equation, though there's always hope that Great American Ball Park will help in that regard. Either way, Siani has the skills base to be worth rostering in deeper dynasty leagues in 2019.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Misses Gold Glove eligibility
Siani won't be eligible to win a Gold Glove Award since he didn't meet the eligibility requirements of 698 field innings through 138 team games, per Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat.
ANALYSIS
It's an unfortunate situation for the 25-year-old, who fell just two innings short of the threshold. Siani opened the campaign in a reserve role but took hold of the starting job in center field and has posted plus-eight DRS and plus-14 OAA in 103 games this season. His offensive upside is limited with two homers, a 4.7 percent walk rate and a .616 OPS, but a .253 average and 15 stolen could provide some value in deeper leagues. Siani has flipped his career trajectory in 2024 after he claimed off waivers by the Cardinals late last season.
