2023 Fantasy Outlook
Mastrobuoni spent most of the season with Triple-A Durham, slashing .300/.377/.469 with 23 steals in 26 attempts. His exploits earned him a late September promotion. Unfortunately, Mastrobuoni struggled, fanning six times in 17 plate appearances. Undeterred, the Cubs traded for Mastrobuoni where he'll have a chance to win a reserve role in the spring. Mastrobuoni can play all three outfield positions as well as both middle infield spots. His versatility bodes well for a utility job, but beware, while his numbers with the Bulls were solid, he was 26 years old, a bit elderly for the level. Because he can run, Mastrobuoni is worth monitoring, but he has a lot to prove before showing up on the fantasy radar. Read Past Outlooks

Dealt to Cubs
Mastrobuoni was traded from the Rays to the Cubs on Tuesday in exchange for a low-level pitching prospect, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
ANALYSIS
As Topkin notes, this will open up a 40-man roster spot for the Rays that they can use to protect a prospect from the Rule 5 draft. Mastrobuoni can play second base and the outfield and hit .300/.377/.469 with 16 home runs and 23 steals in 129 games as a 26-year-old at Triple-A this past season. He will compete with Zach McKinstry for lefty-hitting utility work in 2023.
