Urbina (personal) went 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, a stolen base and a run Saturday for Single-A Fort Myers after he was activated from the Twins' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.
ANALYSIS
The start of Urbina's 2022 campaign was delayed while he dealt with visa issues, but the 20-year-old Venezuelan has finally returned to action for Fort Myers after an extended stay in rookie ball. He began his rehab assignment in the FCL on June 25 and slashed .250/.326/.350 in 10 games of rookie ball before joining the Single-A affiliate.

Urbina took part in the fall instructional league, where he rarely struck out against pitchers who were typically several years older than him, but other than that it was an uneventful year for the 18-year-old center fielder. Urbina was one of the top international prospects to sign July 2, 2018 ($2.75 million bonus) and was as advertised in his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League. He had a 10.6 BB% and 6.5 K% while hitting .279 with 19 steals in 50 games, showing the type of plate skills that could make him a leadoff hitter at the highest level. He only hit two home runs in 2019, but his .164 ISO and .443 SLG were solid marks for a 17-year-old with the potential to stick in center field. His pedigree, raw tools and advanced approach portend success as he makes his stateside debut this year.
Urbina was one of the top international prospects to sign July 2, 2018 ($2.75 million bonus) and was as advertised in his pro debut in the Dominican Summer League. A 6-foot, 175-pound center fielder with plus speed, Urbina had a 10.6 BB% and 6.5 K% while hitting .279 with 19 steals in 50 games, showing the type of plate skills that could make him a leadoff hitter at the highest level. He only hit two home runs, but his .164 ISO and .443 SLG were solid marks for a 17-year-old with the potential to develop into a plus center fielder. Urbina was too pull-heavy (56.8 Pull%), but it's hard to fault him in that regard, given his elite contact rate and the fact he was playing against poor defenders who weren't shifting. As with any hitter who has only played in the DSL, there are a wide range of outcomes for Urbina's stateside debut, but his pedigree, raw tools and advanced approach portend continued success.
The Twins inked Urbina to a $2.75 million deal on July 2 -- the second highest bonus awarded to an international teenager last summer, behind the $3.51 million the Blue Jays gave Orelvis Martinez. Urbina, who won't turn 17 until late April, is obviously a long way from the big leagues, but he is worth stashing in deeper dynasty leagues. A Venezuelan center fielder with plus speed and a strong hit tool, Urbina has a good 6-foot, 175-pound frame for his age, which fits his skill set well, as he shouldn't outgrow center field or see his swing or speed compromised as he ages. He gets praised for his baseball IQ, makeup and energy on the field. Power isn't a big part of his game currently, but players his size with advanced hit tools typically grow into double-digit homer power as they mature. He could bat first or second in a big-league lineup someday, contributing in all five roto categories.
