Higgins saw his most extended playing time at the MLB level in 2022 and responded with six home runs and a .693 OPS across 74 games. For a player who had just one hit in 23 at-bats a year earlier as a 28-year-old rookie, his production wasn't too bad. The Cubs apparently didn't see enough to keep him around, however, and he elected free agency after being removed from the 40-man roster. Higgins subsequently joined Arizona on a minor-league deal and should serve as organizational depth with Gabriel Moreno and Carson Kelly locked in as the clubs top catchers. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Higgins joined Arizona as a non-roster invitee in January and was unable to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster despite a .913 OPS during spring training. Jose Herrera is poised to begin the season as the backup catcher behind starter Gabriel Moreno, but Higgins could still find himself in the mix at some point with Carson Kelly out with a fractured forearm.
