2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Jordan Westburg's injury issues meant Urias was in the Orioles' lineup more times than not through the first four months of last season. He was then traded to the Astros at the deadline and played a good amount initially, but Jose Altuve settling back in at second base in September meant Urias was mostly a reserve in the final month. Urias is handy to have around because he plays a capable second and third base and typically doesn't hurt you offensively, though he had his worst season at the plate in 2025 with a wRC+ of 87. It's not a very impactful skill set for fantasy, however, even if Urias finds his way into the lineup on a regular basis. Read Past Outlooks
Booted off 40-man roster
The Astros designated Urias for assignment Tuesday.
Analysis
The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Miguel Ullola. Urias is projected to make more than $4 million in his final year of arbitration eligibility, which the Astros felt was too much. The 31-year-old is a career .257/.321/.403 hitter and capable defender at second and third base, so he shouldn't have difficult landing a major-league contract this winter, assuming he clears waivers and becomes a free agent.

2021
Urias' 100 games and 301 plate appearances in 2024 were his lowest since 2021. Part of the reason was an IL stint for a right ankle sprain, but he played less with the slew of young Orioles infielders taking over. Urias played primarily at third base, with short stretches as a regular. At the plate, his 115 wRC+ tied for his career best, fueled by an 18.3 percent strikeout clip, his lowest in the majors. A career high fly-ball rate helped him pop 11 homers, just the second time he's reached double-digits. Urias' quality of contact is below average, so he relies on volume. However, he's earmarked to serve in a reserve capacity, though he can play all four infield spots. Urias begins the 2025 season only eligible at third base, but he's likely to add others, putting him in play as a mixed league reserve.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Bigger role in 2025
According to Paul Mancano of The Baltimore Banner, Urias could claim a larger role at third base in 2025 after he posted an .819 OPS during the second half of the 2024 regular season.
Analysis
The third baseman saw inconsistent playing time early in the campaign and had a .602 OPS at the end of May, but he was more involved down the stretch. Urias seemed like a non-tender candidate at one point, but the departure of some infield prospects at the trade deadline and the strong second half strengthened his roster positioning heading into 2025.
