Reggie Lawson

Lawson pitched just five times with three starts in the rookie-level Arizona League, allowing eight earned runs after hitters batted .316 against him over 8.2 innings. The young right-hander's fastball was reaching the mid-90s when he was drafted, and although he didn't increase it last season the way some had hoped, reaching the mid-90s at just 19 years old is nothing to scoff at. He also boasts a curveball with plus potential and a solid changeup. His frame and athleticism give the Padres confidence that their 2016 second-round pick will handle a starter's workload while allowing his stuff to potentially tick up. If he impresses enough in the instructional league, he could receive an Opening Day assignment to Low-A Tri-City. Lawson is not a top-200 prospect for dynasty leagues, but there is enough upside here to make him worth monitoring in 2017.
