2024 Fantasy Outlook
Seattle acquired Bliss in the four-player deal that shipped Paul Sewald to Arizona. The infielder scorched Double-A pitching to the tune of .358/.414/.594, and while he initially struggled in Triple-A, a hot finish allowed him to finish with an OPS of .822 in Tacoma over 226 plate appearances while finishing with 55 stolen bases for good measure. Despite a less-than-prototypical frame, Bliss has been able to tap into more power than expected when he was drafted with the 42nd pick in 2021, and he makes enough hard contact to all parts of the field to believe he can hit for a high average, as well. He isn't likely to make the Opening Day roster, but Bliss has a good chance of making his MLB debut in 2024, and there's certainly a chance for fantasy relevance in the coming seasons. Flipped in Sewald trade
Bliss was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Mariners on Monday along with Dominic Canzone and Josh Rojas in exchange for Paul Sewald, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
ANALYSIS
Bliss used good fortune (.408 BABIP) and a very favorable home park to slash .358/.414/.594 with 12 home runs and 30 steals for Double-A Amarillo, but he has struggled in 13 games since getting promoted to Triple-A. Given that Bliss is already 23 and was a below league average hitter at Single-A (99 wRC+) and High-A (82 wRC+), his run at Double-A looks like a clear outlier, but he has a chance to be a good defensive second baseman or a passable defensive shortstop, so he should at least have a big-league career as a bench infielder.
