Returns to Triple-A
PKansas City Royals  AAA
August 31, 2025
The Royals optioned Kolek to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday.
Analysis
The right-hander was called up for a spot start Saturday and allowed just one run over six innings in a no-decision against Detroit, but he won't stick on the big-league roster with Michael Wacha returning from the paternity list Sunday. Kolek could rejoin the big club down the stretch, but he may have a difficult time finding a spot in the Kansas City rotation while all of Wacha, Seth Lugo, Michael Lorenzen, Noah Cameron and Ryan Bergert are available.

Could remain in rotation
PSan Diego Padres  AAA
May 25, 2025
Kolek is likely to stick in the Padres rotation for the near future after Michael King was placed on the injured list Sunday with right shoulder inflammation.
Analysis
Kolek figures to have a solidified spot in the rotation with King on the shelf. It was possible Kolek was going to be the odd man out sooner than later due to Yu Darvish being on a rehab assignment as he works his way back from elbow inflammation. Now with King injured, Kolek should stick around for a little while longer. Kolek has pitched to a 2.84 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 21:8 K:BB in 25.1 innings thus far.
