Peete has a .283/.370/.375 slash line with zero home runs and 20 steals in 61 games for Single-A Modesto.
ANALYSIS
Peete missed a week in May with an undisclosed injury. His goose egg in the home run department is a pretty big surprise, given the underlying metrics. His 28.5 percent hard-hit rate and 15.2 percent soft-hit rate are very strong marks for an 18-year-old infielder, and while his 42.9 percent groundball rate isn't elite, it's not an alarmingly high rate. Peete has been hitting a lot of line drives (29.2 percent) and his 40 percent pull rate is on the low end, but those aren't necessarily bad traits for a young hitter with his athleticism and above-average raw power. This could be a buy-low opportunity in dynasty leagues.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Peete intrigued as both a pitcher and shortstop in high school, but he suffered an elbow injury in August 2022 and never returned to the mound. Instead, the 6-foot-2, 193-pound lefty hitter from Georgia focused on shortstop and showed off his loud tools at the draft combine before Seattle took him with the 30th overall pick and handed him a $2.5 million bonus. Peete won't turn 19 until August, so he is one of the youngest, most projectable position players from this class. Peete has plus bat speed and projects to develop 20-plus homer power, although he has an aggressive approach. He slashed .283/.349/.404 with two home runs, six steals and a 27.5 K% in 24 games across the Arizona Complex League and Single-A, which is right in line with expectations. The mystery surrounding his elbow injury, which he never got surgery on, and questions about how much he'll hit and whether he'll outgrow shortstop, are reasons he didn't come off the board earlier, but Peete has a ton of tools -- he is also a plus runner -- and upside to dream on.
