2023 Fantasy Outlook
Hatch debuted for the Blue Jays in 2020 with a 2.73 ERA out of the bullpen, but he's struggled to get back in the big leagues over the past two seasons. The right-hander has been working as a starter at Triple-A Buffalo and had a 4.67 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 113:38 K:BB across 131 frames in 2022. The Blue Jays have openings at the back end of the rotation with Yusei Kikuchi coming off a poor season and Hyun Jin Ryu recovering from Tommy John surgery, but Hatch is likely a longshot to open 2023 as a starter for Toronto. However, a solid showing at Triple-A should be enough to earn him a look at some point during the season. Read Past Outlooks

Sent packing
Hatch was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It was difficult to envision Hatch sticking around with the big-league team after he was clobbered for 10 earned runs on 12 hits in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays. Hatch was replaced on the active roster by Trevor Richards (neck). Given he has an ERA north of 5.00 with Buffalo too, Hatch could be a DFA candidate around the trade deadline.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
A starter exclusively during his time in the minors between the Cubs and Blue Jays organizations, Hatch made 16 of his 17 appearances out of the bullpen in his MLB debut. Despite a lack of familiarity with the role, Hatch looked plenty comfortable pitching in relief, posting a 3.00 ERA and .207 BAA out of the bullpen for "Toronto." He averaged 95.5 mph on his four-seam fastball and can pull the string with his changeup to get hitters out in front. His slider also showed promise with a whiff rate pushing 44%, according to Statcast, so while his 21.1 K% does not do much to excite, the pieces are there for more dominance. The velocity and fastball spin alone make Hatch worth monitoring as he stretches back out this spring. Toronto made it clear that he will be transitioned back to a starting role in 2021, which may mean a stint at Triple-A if he doesn't win a rotation spot in camp.
