Sacramento Athletics
2025 Fantasy Outlook
After eight-plus seasons in the minors and another year playing independent ball, Ferguson got his first taste of the big leagues last season at 30 years old. The right-hander demonstrated excellent strikeout prowess, fanning 105 batters across 79.2 innings between the Athletics (51.1 innings) and Triple-A Las Vegas (28.1 innings). Ferguson mixed five pitches effectively, but his 96 mph fastball (39 percent usage) was his put-away pitch. The Vanderbilt alum's 11.6 percent walk rate (10th percentile) and 8.4 percent barrel percentage allowed (35th percentile) were glaring blemishes, while his minor-league track record (4.87 ERA, 1.53 WHIP) suggests we should expect ratio regression in 2025. Still, Ferguson should open the season in high-leverage for the Athletics, likely in a setup role. Read Past Outlooks

PSacramento Athletics
August 20, 2025
Ferguson picked up the save in Wednesday's 4-2 extra-inning win over the Twins, allowing no hits and one walk with no strikeouts in a scoreless 10th inning.
Analysis
The save was Ferguson's second of the year and his first since May 4 in Miami. The 31-year-old right-hander has rattled off 7.1 consecutive scoreless innings, though he likely still has work to do before the Athletics trust him in the high-leverage mix on a consistent basis following the Mason Miller trade. For the campaign, Ferguson has a 5.53 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 41:29 K:BB over 42.1 innings.

Candidate to be traded?
PSacramento Athletics
June 7, 2025
Ferguson could be a candidate to leave the Athletics via trade before the deadline, Jim Bowden of The Athletic speculates.
Analysis
Ferguson has blown three saves this season, and while he might not be ready to feature in a high-leverage role for a contender, he could be a solid addition for most bullpens around the league. Ferguson has a 4.28 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through 27.1 innings across 29 appearances this season.
