                  Released from minor-league deal
Munoz was released by the Diamondbacks on Monday.
                  Analysis
Munoz was limited to just 12 games this season at Triple-A Reno, but he hit .304/.389/.391 in those contests so this might be a case of him opting out of his minor-league contract. It's unclear whether the 28-year-old utility player might have something else lined up.

Munoz has struggled to find his footing in the majors the last few seasons, accruing just barely over 100 plate appearances in total over the last three years while with the Red Sox and Phillies. He's hit .309 with 14 homers and 31 steals over 160 Triple-A games during that stretch while playing basically all over the diamond, so there could still be a useful utility player in there somewhere. Munoz latched on with the Diamondbacks this offseason and will try to convince them he's worthy of a bench spot.

                  Cut after leaving spring training
Munoz (hamstring) was released Saturday by the Cardinals after he flew home to the Dominican Republic without informing the team, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
                  Analysis
The 25-year-old went down with a left hamstring strain in late February and was unlikely to be ready for Opening Day, but he apparently wasn't happy with his past and future role with the club. Munoz has mostly worked in a utility role since making his major-league debut in 2018, and he had a .273/.331/.723 slash line with 10 home runs in 196 total games. Ditching the team mid-camp is a bold move for a player who has yet to establish himself at the major-league level, especially since he seems destined to fill a similar role with a different team once healthy, assuming he even receives that opportunity.
