2025 Fantasy Outlook
The No. 6 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Black showed significant improvements as a sophomore despite starting fewer games than in his rookie season. Even with numerous injuries ahead of him, Black remained a key bench piece all year for the Magic, who ascended to the top tier of the Eastern Conference behind Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner and a tough defense. Black took more three-pointers last season, but his percentage dropped from 39.4 percent as a rookie to 31.8 percent last season. The Magic got rid of Cole Anthony and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope this offseason, but they traded for Desmond Bane, signed Tyus Jones and drafted Jase Richardson. The Magic are also expected to be fully healthy to start the campaign, meaning Jalen Suggs will start at point guard. That leaves Black to compete with Jones for backup point guard minutes and Richardson for backup shooting guard minutes. Jett Howard, who was taken five picks later than Black in 2023, is also still around but will need to show significant improvements to climb the depth chart. Given his strong defense, Black should be locked into 20-25 minutes a night off the bench. That'll give him a solid fantasy floor worthy of selecting inside the Top 200. However, even though he's only 21 years old and has immense real-world upside, Black's fantasy ceiling in 2025-26 is capped due to the star power ahead of him. Read Past Outlooks
Double-double off bench
Black provided 14 points (6-16 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists and one block across 30 minutes off the bench during Sunday's 106-100 loss to New York.
ANALYSIS
The third-year guard produced his first double-double of the season and the second of his career, as he continues to fill a key role in the Orlando backcourt. Over the last 11 games (two starts), Black has averaged 16.3 points, 5.0 boards, 4.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.2 threes in 30.8 minutes a contest, but he could get a more consistent look in the starting five if Jalen Suggs (leg) winds up missing significant time after leaving Sunday's game early.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Despite starting 33 games during his inaugural season, Black's output left a lot to be desired, even for a rookie. He barely finished as a top-400 player, averaging 4.6 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 16.9 minutes per game. Taken with the No. 6 pick in the 2023 draft, it remains unclear whether Black will turn into a consistent rotation player. Orlando opted to part ways with Markelle Fultz during the offseason, perhaps an indication that they have at least some faith in Black as a long-term piece. However, with the team primed to contend in the Eastern Conference, it is unlikely Black plays more than 20 minutes per game, barring injuries to other players. Although it should be an improved campaign, there is no reason to consider Black a viable fantasy asset, even in deeper formats. As for dynasty leagues, he is worth holding, especially if you are not in win-now mode.

Turning heads for Orlando
Black's strong play has caught the attention of Franz Wagner, Josh Robbins of The Athletic reported.
ANALYSIS
"I think Black is someone who can impact the game on both sides," Wagner said. "When someone like that has the right energy, it's really contagious for everybody else. I think he's a super-important player for our team. Obviously, with some guys out and him seeing more minutes, we need him to play like that consistently." After a quiet start to the campaign, Black seems to have found his stride. Over his last 10 outings, the guard has averaged 11.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.1 three-pointers in 27.4 minutes while shooting 47.9 percent from the field.
