2025 Fantasy Outlook
After four seasons at North Florida, Lanier transferred to Tennessee for his final collegiate campaign. He was an elite scorer, averaging 18.0 points per game, and did most of his damage from deep, shooting 39.5 percent on 8.2 three-point attempts a night. The Pistons selected Lanier with the No. 37 pick, and the rookie sharpshooter could carve out a role if he's lighting it up during training camp. Detroit lost Malik Beasley, Dennis Schroder and Tim Hardaway this offseason and replaced them with Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson. Jaden Ivey is also expected to be healthy and will likely reclaim a starting backcourt spot opposite Cade Cunningham. Marcus Sasser and Ronald Holland could also take steps forward. Lanier will be blocked on the depth chart to start his career, but he should be on fantasy radars, especially in dynasty leagues. Read Past Outlooks
Assigned to G League
The Pistons assigned Lanier to the G League's Motor City Cruise on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Lanier will join the Cruise ahead of Wednesday's matchup against the Cleveland Charge. It's unclear how long the rookie second-rounder will remain in the G League, though the parent club doesn't play again until Friday's game versus the Hawks. He has appeared in just one of Detroit's last eight games.

Aiming to contribute right away
Lanier said he believes he's capable of "immediately" playing a role for the Pistons as a rookie, Coty Davis of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
"Coming in to do whatever they need me to do," Lanier said. "Coming in and making shots when I need to. I am a shooter first, that is what I hang my hat on; putting the ball in the basket. However, I believe that at the NBA level, you need to be able to make an impact on defense. That is how I plan on making my mark." Selected by the Pistons with the No. 37 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, Lanier is coming off a standout campaign at Tennessee in which he compiled averages of 18.0 points and 3.9 rebounds while shooting 43.1 percent from the field and 39.5 percent from three over 38 games.
