Corey Kispert

25-Year-Old ForwardF
Washington Wizards
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Kispert heads into his fourth year in The Association in a familiar role with a rebuilding Wizards team. He figures to be an asset off the bench while starting occasionally. That was the same role he's had in the last two seasons, and essentially, it has translated to fantasy mediocrity regardless of the format. Kispert is an accomplished shooter, making 38.3 percent of his attempts from deep in 2023-24 and 42.4 percent the year before. Still, he shouldn't carry a ton of upside unless he finds a way to start regularly in a team fully committed to a long rebuilding process. Kispert can be a valuable fantasy asset in category-based leagues and deeper formats, and it's worth noting his numbers have been on the rise with each passing year. To note, he either averaged career-best figures or tied his previous career-best mark in points (13.4), rebounds (2.8), assists (2.0), steals (0.5), three-pointers made (2.3) and field-goal attempts (9.9) per game during the 2023-24 season. The only thing that prevents him from being a solid fantasy contributor is the reserve role he'll have in the Wizards' rotation. Re-assessing his value once the season begins could make him worth a waiver-wire pickup, especially if his numbers continue to trend in the right direction. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Corey James Kispert was born in March of 1999 in Edmonds, Washington, just north of Seattle. He is the son of former college athletes Craig (basketball) and Deri (volleyball) Kispert. Corey attended King's High School in Shoreline, Washington. As a junior at King's, Kispert averaged 23.9 points and 2.3 steals per game, led the team to a state title and was named MVP of the state championship tournament. At the end of his junior season, he committed to Gonzaga University. Kispert finished his high school education with a 3.96 grade-point average. Kispert would stay at Gonzaga for a full four years. In his first year as a Bulldog, Kispert played in 35 games and averaged 19.4 minutes per game, with seven starts. Kispert would then start 101 of his next 102 games for Gonzaga. As a sophomore, he earned Academic All-West Coast Conference honors. During his junior season, the forward hit 2.4 threes per game. He also earned WCC First Team and Academic All-WCC Team honors and was a Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award finalist, Kispert's college stats peaked as a senior, when he generated 18.6 points, 2.8 three-pointers and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting 52.9 percent from the field. He was then named All-WCC First Team, WCC Player of the Year and a First Team All-American by Sporting News and Sports Illustrated. He also led Gonzaga to the 2021 NCAA Tournament National Championship game, where the Bulldogs lost to Baylor. Kispert was also named the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year. In the 2021 NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards selected Kispert with the 15th overall pick.

December 19, 2024
Kispert (ankle) tallied 13 points (5-8 FG, 3-5 3Pt), four rebounds, two assists and one block across 19 minutes Thursday in the Wizards' 123-114 win over the Hornets.
ANALYSIS
Kispert made his return to action following a five-game absence due to a sprained left ankle. Even though the Wizards remained without Kyle Kuzma (rib), Kispert didn't fill his spot in the starting five but still made an impact off the bench in a sub-20-minute reserve role. Kispert's playing time could pick up a bit as he becomes further removed from the injury, but he lacks a well-rounded fantasy profile and is best viewed as a streaming option for three-pointers.

2021
Kispert made some minor leaps in his sophomore season, and this year will be the best indicator of what his ceiling can be. Washington has decided to go in full-on tank mode, getting rid of Kristaps Porzingis, Bradley Beal and Monte Morris over the last year. That's left this roster extremely thin, and it should guarantee Kispert a starting 30-minute role. He actually did that for most of last season, averaging 11.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 0.4 steals across 28.3 minutes a night. His calling card is his shooting, though, hitting 2.2 threes while shooting 49.7 percent from the field, 85.2 percent from the free-throw line and 42.4 percent from three-point range. While we are excited about the bump in scoring opportunities, the fantasy profile is ugly when looking at everything else. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Gonzaga product creep closer to 15 points per game on great shooting peripherals, but be aware that you're not getting much else outside of scoring. That's why he'll go undrafted in most leagues, but he's worth keeping an eye on if the Wizards decide to give him more playmaking opportunities.
On a team that struggled for positive storylines last season, Kispert was a pleasant surprise. While he did end well outside the top 250, he picked things up down the stretch. He started the final 29 games and averaged 11.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.3 threes in 31.5 minutes. However, his usage and minutes were inflated due to Bradley Beal's absence. Kispert will presumably continue to be in the rotation as a sophomore, but he's a pure three-point shooter and will compete against Johnny Davis, Will Barton and Deni Avdija for time on the wing. He can be avoided in all but the deepest of leagues.
One of the best pure shooters in college basketball, Kispert helped lead Gonzaga to the National Title Game last season. The 6-7 senior averaged 18.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and shot 44.0 percent from three -- just a notch higher than his 2019-20 figure (43.8% 3PT). Kispert offers a bit more than the typical "shooting specialist" archetype, but firing away from deep is exactly what the Wizards will ask him to do in Year 1. There's a chance Kispert could be of use to fantasy managers in need of threes, but he'll have to compete with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Davis Bertans, Kyle Kuzma and last year's first-rounder, Deni Avdija, for minutes in what's suddenly a crowded wing rotation.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely to sign new deal?
FWashington Wizards
October 19, 2024
Kispert could end up signing a contract extension with the Wizards before the Oct. 21 deadline, according to Alex Golden of the 'Setting the Pace' podcast.
ANALYSIS
The Oct. 21 deadline represents the last date teams can sign players to rookie-scale extensions, and while negotiations have progressed more slowly than initially expected, the Wizards could still hand Kispert a new deal before the start of the 2024-25 campaign, as the Wizards see him as more than just a shooter. For what it's worth, Kispert is coming off a career-best season in 2023-24 in which he averaged 13.4 points per game across 80 regular-season appearances while shooting 38.3 percent from deep. If Kispert doesn't sign a deal by the Oct. 21 deadline, he will become a restricted free agent following the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
