Dean Wade

Dean Wade

26-Year-Old ForwardF
Cleveland Cavaliers
2022 Fantasy Outlook
Despite the Cavaliers trading away several rotational pieces, Wade still could struggle to have an impact again this season. While he has carved out a consistent spot in the lineup, he offers very little in terms of versatility. He ended the 2021-22 season as the 320th ranked player, with averages of 5.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.7 combined steals and blocks. Having added Donovan Mitchell, the Cavaliers will be pushing hard for wins as they look to secure a high playoff seeding. Wade be a regular part of the rotation again, albeit in a role that offers minimal upside. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Dean Jackson Wade was born in 1996 in Wichita, Kansas to Jay and Trish Wade. He attended St. John High School in St. John, Kansas and won three state championships while picking up two All-State honors. Wade averaged 21.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.4 blocks, 2.8 assists, and 2.9 steals over his high school career. During his senior campaign, he posted 25.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 3.0 blocks, and 3.9 steals per game. As a result, Wade was named 2018 Mr. Kansas Basketball and Gatorade Kansas Player of the Year. You can follow him on Twitter (@deanwade3232) and Instagram (@deanwade32). Wade was a staple of the Kansas State basketball program from 2015-16 to 2018-19, making 123 starts in 126 games. He started his career by averaging 9.9 points and 5.1 rebounds across 26.4 minutes in his freshman season, getting named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team. Wade posted similar numbers his second season, but his assist total grew to 1.8 per game while his foul total decreased despite more minutes. He averaged a career-high 16.2 PPG in his junior year en route to earning First-Team All-Big 12 honors. The Wildcats made the Elite Eight that year, but Wade was limited to only one NCAA Tournament appearance due to injury. Wade again earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors after averaging 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds in his senior year, but his career was cut short due to a foot injury and he missed the postseason. He went undrafted in 2019 but caught on with the Cavaliers later that summer on a two-way deal.

Wade won't start Saturday's game against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Wade saw a string of starts to close out the regular season with Isaac Okoro (knee) sidelined and other starters resting but will return to his usual bench role with the team at full health. Wade should be expected to see a minutes load somewhere in the teens with Cleveland likely tightening up its rotation.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Operating as starter sans Allen
FCleveland Cavaliers
March 10, 2022
Per Kelsey Russo of The Athletic, Jarrett Allen may miss the rest of the campaign due to a finger injury, so Wade, who started Tuesday's contest in place of Allen, may be slotted into the starting lineup for the remainder of the season.
ANALYSIS
Wade totaled 10 points, four rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block in 37 minutes during Tuesday's start. The undrafted forward out of Kansas State has started 26 contests this season and has averaged 7.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists during those games, which are much better than his numbers as a reserve. Kevin Love is also a candidate for increased playing time, though Cleveland appears to like the fit the veteran has with the second unit, as he's only started two games all season despite out-producing Wade for the majority of the year.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
In his sophomore season, Wade was able to gain a solid spot in the Cavaliers' rotation, upping his minutes per game from 5.9 to 19.2, while averaging 6.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists. Much of this can be attributed to Kevin Love only being healthy for 25 games. The Kansas State product will likely have a much smaller role in 2021-22 as Cleveland traded for Bulls' forward Lauri Markkanen in late August. Cleveland also added to their frontcourt depth in the draft, selecting USC's big man Evan Mobley with the third overall pick. Wade's role will be limited to sparse minutes off the bench, leaving him unlikely to have fantasy value in most standard leagues.
