2024 Fantasy Outlook
After two-and-a-half seasons in Philadelphia, the Sixers dealt Springer in February to Boston for a second-round pick. Presumably, Philly was frustrated with the defensive specialist's poor shooting. As a Sixer, Springer shot 41.6 percent from the field and 23.8 percent from behind the arc. Basically, Springer was a very young D-but-no-3 wing. Things did not change in Boston, where his minutes per game dipped below eight per contest. The 22-year-old Springer now returns to New England for this fourth season in the Association. And despite his experience, he's still younger than Celtics' rookie Baylor Scheierman. Boston is clearly focused on repeating as NBA champions, which means very few minutes will be available for both youngsters. Springer has 44 G League games under his belt, averaging 17.4 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. But at the G League level, he still shot a poor 29.1 percent from three-point range. Maybe Springer will discover his shot this season in Maine? In an ideal world, the 6-foot-4 guard will eventually shoot well enough to justify minutes for his defense to shine. Unfortunately, how he does that on a loaded Celtics team is unclear. Read Past Outlooks

2021 Fantasy Outlook
Springer was selected by the 76ers with the 28th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. During his freshman season at Tennessee, he averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals. While he wasn't especially impressive as a freshman, he had a strong high school pedigree and was ranked 13th in his recruiting class. He has immediate upside as a 3-and-D player, though he took just 46 threes as a freshman (43.5%), so the sample size is relatively small, and he also went an abysmal 2-for-15 from deep in Summer League. He has potential to crack the 76ers' rotation from Day 1, though he'll have to fight off Furkan Korkmaz, Shake Milton, Tyrese Maxey and Matisse Thybulle for reserve minutes.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could be traded before deadline
The Celtics could be open to listening to offers for Springer, according to Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Springer is an afterthought in the Celtics rotation, and the four-year veteran has played more than 10 minutes just once all season long. His path to consistent playing time is blocked, but he's a player with untapped potential who could be a solid addition to a non-contending club. Thus, he has more value for Boston as a trade chip than anything else. The Celtics are expected to listen to proposals from teams interested in acquiring the former Tennessee standout.
