Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Jalen Hood-Schifino spent the 2022-23 season with the Indiana Hoosiers. In his first and only collegiate season, he was awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Year and voted to Second-team All-Big Ten behind 13.5 points on 42/33/78 shooting, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 33.1 minutes per game. Arguably the best game of his campaign occurred Feb. 25 against Purdue, where he accumulated 35 points (14-24 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-7 FT), seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Prior to college, the guard won back-to-back GEICO High School Basketball National titles in his junior and senior years at Montverde Academy in Florida. He was invited to play in the Jordan Brand Classic, where he scored 14 points and drilled four triples, and he worked out with NBA players, including Paul George. Hood-Schifino is a big point guard, standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing in at 215 pounds. He has lead point guard skills - great vision, passing and handling - which helped him thrive in traditional pick-and-roll settings. He likes the mid-range jumper, but has the size to bully smaller guards on hard drives. Given his size and quickness, he could defend multiple positions in the NBA and was aggressive on that end of the floor in college. It's unlikely Hood-Schifino will be given the keys to an NBA offense out of the gate, but his upside as a combo guard that can run an offense and make his presence felt on defense gives him a strong chance at a meaningful reserve role to begin his career. There are shades of Bradley Beal, Spencer Dinwiddie and CJ McCollum to Hood-Schifino's game, especially in terms of size, but the prospect projects as more of a passer and less of a three-point shooter than those three.

February 28, 2025
The 76ers signed Hood-Schifino to a two-way contract Friday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Hood-Schifino was waived by the Jazz on Feb. 6 after being traded by the Lakers as part of the three-way deal that saw Anthony Davis go to the Mavericks and Luka Doncic being sent to the Lakers. When he was with the Lakers, Hood-Schifino appeared in only two games due to a hamstring injury, but he has a chance to see some minutes in a rotational role with the 76ers.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Hood-Schifino was selected by the Lakers with the 17th pick in the 2023 draft. He will arrive in Los Angeles as a highly touted lead guard, after delivering averages of 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists during his lone season at Indiana. While he has the size to compete right out of the gate, his struggles from the perimeter cannot be overlooked. During the 2023 Summer League, Hood-Schifino put up averages of 13.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.3 steals. Unfortunately, he shot just 34.0 percent from the floor, connecting on 0.8 three-pointers per contest. Given his inability to be a reliable off-ball threat, he will likely be limited to backup point guard minutes behind both D'Angelo Russell and Gabe Vincent.

GDelaware Blue Coats   G League (76ers)
October 3, 2023
Hood-Schifino was commended by teammates for having a "strong Day 1 of training camp" Tuesday, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Hood-Schifino earned shoutouts from D'Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves. Having mentors in the Lakers' backcourt should benefit Hood-Schifino, and it's encouraging to see a strong performance after he shot 34.0 percent from the field and looked lost defensively during Summer League. The rookie averaged 13.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 0.8 steals per game on 41.7/33.3/77.6 percent shooting during his freshman campaign at Indiana last year.
