2025 Fantasy Outlook
Despite what could end up being the best situation of his career, Hayes failed to have a significant impact during the 2024-25 campaign. Following the Anthony Davis trade, Hayes stepped into a starting role, averaging 8.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game over his final 25 appearances. The need for a serviceable center led the Lakers to Deandre Ayton, who himself is looking to prove a lot of people wrong. With Maxi Kleber and Jarred Vanderbilt also in the mix, it would appear that Hayes could be in for an uphill battle when it comes to playing time. Read Past Outlooks
Returns from three-game absence
Hayes (hamstring) contributed three points (1-1 FG, 1-2 FT) and five rebounds across 13 minutes Sunday in the Lakers' 110-93 win over the Raptors.
ANALYSIS
Hayes stepped back into his usual role as the Lakers' backup center after he had missed the previous three games while managing a sore left hamstring. So long as Deandre Ayton remains healthy, Hayes doesn't look poised to see his role grow substantially, as neither of the two centers offers enough floor spacing to play alongside one another in the frontcourt. For the season, Hayes is shooting a career-best 76.9 percent from the floor while averaging 6.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 17.5 minutes over 33 appearances.

Hayes is one of several big men who will contend for minutes in the Lakers' frontcourt behind Anthony Davis. Hayes has shown upside in short stretches, but he lacks consistency to earn a steady role off the bench. The Lakers won't have a lot of frontcourt depth to begin the 2024-25 season, and that might lead to Hayes seeing the court often, but his production will ultimately determine whether he can stick in the rotation. Even if he does and lands in a best-case scenario, he'll be the backup of a player with a high usage rate and who logs heavy minutes in Davis, so his fantasy upside should remain limited. Hayes averaged just 12.5 minutes per game in 2023-24 and posted 4.3 points with 3.0 rebounds per game. Needless to say, those numbers won't be good enough to make him valuable in fantasy.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Free-agent target for Celtics?
Hayes is one of the players the Celtics might target in free agency to bolster their frontcourt depth, according to Brian Robb of MassLive.
ANALYSIS
The Celtics should be in the market for center help this summer since they could have up to three frontcourt players departing the organization in Al Horford, Luke Kornet and potentially Kristaps Porzingis. Hayes logged extended minutes as a starter with the Lakers in 2024-25, but he was wildly exposed in the playoffs, so he might be better suited to play a backup role if he signs with Boston.
