2025 Fantasy Outlook
After two seasons in Boston with minimal usage, Walsh has an opportunity for meaningful minutes in 2025-26. But the question remains whether Walsh's high motor on defense can compensate for his poor shooting. The 21-year-old appeared in 52 games for the C's last season but only averaged eight minutes per contest. Walsh played in only one G League game last season, which might have been a missed opportunity. His shot needs work. The forward shot 43.3 percent from the field during his lone college season at Arkansas. In 2023-24, Walsh hit 43.5 percent from the field in the G League. With the Celtics last season, he drained only 36.1 percent of his shots. Walsh is also a poor free-throw shooter, which is not a good sign. The energetic forward is too young to write off, but this could be a critical season for Walsh to prove he's more than bench fodder. With Jayson Tatum injured (Achilles), Kristaps Porzingis traded and Al Horford possibly retiring, Boston is woefully thin at the power forward and center positions. Despite being only 6-foot-7, Walsh could see time at the four. But he'll need to improve his offensive skills to seize the opportunity in front of him. Read Past Outlooks
Double-double off bench Saturday
Walsh closed with 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-4 3Pt), 13 rebounds, two assists and one block across 30 minutes off the bench during Saturday's 146-115 victory over the Clippers.
ANALYSIS
Shifting to the second unit while Sam Hauser got a start at the four, Walsh produced his second double-double of the season, with the other coming Nov. 20 against the Cavaliers. Walsh's production has been on the decline in the starting five -- he'd failed to score in double digits, or pull down more than seven boards, in seven straight games -- but it's not yet clear if Saturday's effort will be enough for the third-year forward to regain his spot.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
As a rookie, the 19-year-old Walsh appeared in 19 games for the Boston Celtics and made 27 appearances for the Maine Celtics. With Boston, he only saw mop-up duty during the Celtics' frequent blowouts and averaged a modest 9.2 minutes per contest. With Maine, Walsh showed flashes of the high-motor Boston hopes will eventually make him rotation-worthy in the Association. In Maine, Walsh averaged 14.7 points, 7.5 boards, 0.9 steals, 0.8 blocks and 2.1 triples over 29.8 minutes per G League contest. He demonstrated high-energy defensive skills, including the ability to guard positions one through four. At 6-foot-7, Walsh's best path to meaningful NBA minutes will be via energetic 3-and-D play. The Celtics are focused on repeating as NBA champions. That probably means Walsh will again spend lots of time in Maine trying to improve on last year's 36.1 percent shooting from three-point range. But, should Boston experience significant injuries, Walsh could earn more meaningful minutes as a reserve.

Takes demotion in stride
Walsh said he's not overly concerned about his recent move to the bench, Jay King of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
"I feel like the other team has to feel me. The other staff has to feel me," Walsh said. "The other organization has to feel me. Every time I'm on the court, I've got to constantly make it hard for everybody else to kind of survive on the other team. I feel like I hadn't been doing that. So, I've got to make sure that I am doing that." To Walsh's credit, he responded in a positive way Saturday against the Clippers, posting a double-double with 13 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and one block in 30 minutes.
