Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Born in Lithuania, Kasparas Jakucionis began playing basketball in the country's youth leagues before joining FC Barcelona. He played for the youth team, the U18 team and the main team throughout 2022-23 and 2024-25. In 2022, he also placed Gold in the U16 Euro Championship A. Jakucionis was named Zadar Tournament (ANGT) MVP in 2023 and Belgrade (NIJT) MVP in 2024. In the summer of 2024, he committed to playing college basketball for Illinois. As a one-and-done freshman, Jakucionis played 31.9 minutes per game and averaged 15.0 points on 44/32/85 shooting, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists. He was named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team and the All-Big Ten Third Team. Jakucionis is an adept playmaker capable of scoring or passing from anywhere on the floor. At 6-foot-6 with good footwork, feel for the game and shooting touch, he can play a multitude of roles, including that of a primary playmaker. He sets up his teammates with ease, threading the needle for easy scoring opportunities. Despite not being an elite athlete, Jakucionis can also create his own shot with quality dribbling, hesitations and a working step-back jumper. His understanding of angles and advantages allowed him to average 5.1 free-throw attempts per game. On defense, he isn't a playmaker, but he's solid enough to work within a scheme. Jakucionis projects as a combo guard in the NBA, though one who may be more comfortable as a passer than a scorer out of the gate. That gives him a high floor as a potential sixth man early on, if not a starter. In terms of playstyle, he shares similarities with players like Austin Reaves and Goran Dragic.

Jakucionis was selected by the Heat with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
ANALYSIS
Jakucionis has a lot of international and college experience. He played for FC Barcelona, both at the youth and senior levels, between the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons before jumping stateside to play for Illinois. As a one-and-done freshman, Jakucionis played 31.9 minutes per game and averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists as a combo guard capable of playing both roles in the backcourt. Jakucionis figures to see minutes off the bench as a rookie, but it's not out of the question that his role might grow as the season progresses -- as long as he adjusts well to the pace of The Association. His passing ability should play very well at the next level.

Target for Boston
GFree Agent
June 24, 2025
The Celtics are trying to move into the lottery of the 2025 NBA Draft with Jakucionis being a target, Steven Bulpett of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The Celtics have parted ways with key players like Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to get under the second apron and are now eyeing Jakucionis as part of a potential youth movement. The Illinois guard averaged 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists across 33 games in his lone college season. Known for his three-level scoring ability, Jakucionis has also drawn concerns for his turnover issues. He's been projected across a wide draft range, but Boston would almost certainly need to trade into the lottery to select him.
