Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Matthew Richard Ryan was born in April of 1997 in White Plains, New York. He is the son of Richard and Laurie Ryan and has an older sister and a younger brother. For high school, Ryan attended Iona Prep in New Rochelle, New York. As a senior, he led Iona to their first Class AA Archdiocesan Championship and averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists per contest. Ryan started his college career at Notre Dame, but received limited playing time for the Fighting Irish. In the summer of 2017, Ryan transferred to Vanderbilt. After sitting out the 2017-18 season, Ryan started 25 of 29 games for Vandy in 2018-19 and averaged 24.9 minutes of run per game. He also hit 2.0 three-pointers per contest for the Commodores. Ryan then graduated from Vanderbilt with a degree in Economics. For the 2019-2020 season, Ryan was a graduate transfer at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Ryan delivered 15.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.7 made three-pointers per game for the Mocs. Ryan then went undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft. In 2021-22, Ryan played in 28 games for the G League's Grand Rapid Gold, before signing a two-way contract with the Boston Celtics.
ANALYSIS Ryan was recently selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 G League Draft by the Knicks' affiliate in Westchester, but he'll get moved up to the parent club to fill the 14th spot on the 15-man roster. A career 41.1 percent shooter from beyond the arc over parts of three seasons in the NBA, Ryan will provide the Knicks with additional floor spacing, but he's not guaranteed to be regularly featured in head coach Tom Thibodeau's rotation.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Knicks could move for him
FFree Agent
October 22, 2024
The Knicks could make a move to sign Ryan to a standard contract, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
ANALYSIS The Knicks will enter the regular season with just 12 players on standard contracts, but since they need to carry 14 players on such deals by Nov. 5, they need to add two players to standard minimum deals over the next two weeks. Ryan is an option the Knicks are considering due to his elite three-point shooting ability. He averaged 5.4 points per game while shooting 45.1 percent from deep across 28 regular-season appearances with New Orleans in the 2023-24 season.
