Ray Spalding

Spalding was born Mar. 11, 1997 in Louisville, Kentucky. He is the son of Raymond Brooks and Gerri Spalding. He has one older sister (Maya) and two younger brothers (Jayden and James). In addition to basketball, Spalding grew up playing soccer and kickball. He attended Trinity High School in Louisville. He committed to playing collegiately for the Louisville Cardinals. He had a notable junior campaign, averaging 12.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists. Those numbers resulted in a ACC All-Honorable Mention Team selection. Spalding attended the University of Louisville. His freshman campaign was 2015-16, where he averaged 5.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in his 30 appearances (six starts). His best performance as a freshman was Nov. 21, 2015 against North Florida, where he posted 18 points (8-10 FG, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds, four steals and two blocks in 31 minutes. As a sophomore, Spalding averaged 5.9 points and 5.5 rebounds in 19.2 minutes in his 34 appearances (nine starts). His best game as a sophomore was a win over Syracuse on Feb. 26, 2017, where he posted 18 points (8-9 FG, 2-6 FT), 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and one block in 28 minutes. As a junior -- Spalding's final season -- he averaged 12.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists in 27.6 minutes during his 36 appearances (34 starts). Arguably his best performance as a senior was Dec. 23, 2017 in a win over Grand Canyon, where he recorded 21 points (8-13 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 5-9 FT), 16 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and one assist. After the season, he was named to the ACC All-Honorable Mention Team.
