2022 Fantasy Outlook
After being selected with the 29th overall pick by the Rockets (via Minnesota), Washington joins an extremely young lineup in Houston. On one hand, coming off a 20-62 season, the Rockets should be open to many different lineup possibilities. On the other hand, their backcourt seems rather locked up by Kevin Porter and Jalen Green. The 6-foot-3 Washington was a combo guard at Kentucky, where he generated 12.5 points, 3.9 assists and 1.6 turnovers across 29.2 minutes per game as a freshman. Early reports imply that Houston would prefer Washington play more at point guard, where he'll battle Trey Burke and G League-star Daishen Nix to be Porter's primary backup. At 29 years of age, Burke seems out of kilter with Houston's timeline and destined for a trade deadline move. Nix signed a modest four-year deal in February, though the cap-friendly money screams end-of-bench status. In other words, the door is open for the 20-year-old Washington to earn significant minutes as Houston's backup floor general. The mercurial Porter is a restricted free agent after this season, so should Porter stumble, Washington could be in a great position to seize a starting spot down the line.
