Gets arthroscopic knee surgery
FDenver Nuggets
Knee
December 4, 2024
The Nuggets announced Wednesday that Cancar has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left knee and will be re-evaluated in eight weeks.
ANALYSIS The arthroscopic procedure is Cancar's second major left knee operation within the past 16 months, as he previously had surgery in August 2023 to address a torn ACL. Cancar appeared in just four games for Denver this season before suffering his latest knee-related setback. Given the timeline laid out by Denver, Cancar shouldn't be expected to return to game action until after the All-Star break.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022
2017
Despite signing a new three-year deal with the Nuggets, there is very little chance Cancar sees enough playing time to warrant attention in fantasy. Since being drafted in 2017, he has barely seen the floor, at least consistently, leaving him as an afterthought for all fantasy managers. Coming off a season in which he played just 15 times, there is no reason to think he can have any sort of value.
Despite Cancar's status as a recent draft pick, he's spent the past two seasons playing professional ball in France, Slovenia and Serbiam getting plenty of experience. Like many international players, Cancar is likely to continue playing in overseas, as he still has time left on his contract with Mega Bemax in Serbia. Cancar is a lengthy forward who can play multiple positions, which fits what the Nuggets have looked for in recent years. The fact that he shot 62 percent from the field in the Serbian League last season and shot 40 percent from the three-point line in Liga ABA and SKL the past two seasons is also an encouraging sign for his development as a floor-spacing big. Scouts believe he can still grow into his long body, as he's got a 7'0' wingspan and a height of 6'9” at the ripe age of 20. That said, he'll likely continue to develop overseas rather than making the Nuggets' regular-season roster.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could return around February
FDenver Nuggets
December 4, 2024
Cancar underwent left knee surgery Wednesday and will be re-evaluated in eight weeks, the team announced Wednesday, meaning he could return at some point during February.
ANALYSIS Cancar will be reappraised in eight weeks, so a return at some point around the All-Star break is not out of the question. He's unlikely to see heavy minutes, however, as Cancar made just four appearances for Denver before getting injured.
