Zavier Simpson

Zavier Simpson, formerly Xavier Simpson, was born Feb. 11, 1997 in Lima, Ohio. He is the son of Bobbie Carter and Quincey Simpson. Simpson was a ball boy for the Lima Senior High School since the second grade when his father was an assistant coach for the team. He spent a half hour dribbling every morning during elementary school, and he worked out for one and half hours per day doing basketball drills during high school. Simpson scored 59 points in a game during high school, breaking the record posted by two-time Ohio Mr. Basketball, Greg Simpson. In 2016, he was voted Ohio Mr. Basketball as a senior. In college, he played four years at Michigan and was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team during his junior and senior campaigns. At Michigan, Simpson graduated with a general studies degree. Simpson played four years at the University of Michigan. As a freshman, he averaged 1.6 points and 1.0 assists in 8.7 minutes per game. He saw an expanded role as a sophomore, averaging 7.3 points, 3.7 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 26.5 minutes per contest for the Wolverines. Simpson became a full-time starter as a junior during the 2018-19 season, averaging 8.8 points, 6.6 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals. He was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team during that campaign, and also during his senior campaign. During Simpson's senior year, he averaged 12.9 points, 7.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 33.7 minutes per contest.
