Fact Checked By: Josh Collacchi

Michigan passed legislation to allow sports betting in December 2019 and the first physical sportsbooks opened March 2020, while online sports betting launched January 2021.

The first three sportsbooks to open in Michigan were in Detroit, but there are 23 tribal casinos throughout the state that could take part in sports betting with some already having deals.

Daily Fantasy Sports were formally legalized December 2019, but fantasy sites operated in Michigan long before that. The most notable rule in the bill is that the minimum participating age is 18, as opposed to 21 for sports betting.
