The Pacers announced Saturday that Mathurin will undergo season-ending surgery in the near future to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder,
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
ANALYSISOn Thursday, Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said that Mathurin would have his injured shoulder re-evaluated following the team's three-game road trip that concludes Tuesday in Oklahoma City. After further evaluation, however, Mathurin will now go under the knife and have his sophomore season cut short. With Indiana trading
Buddy Hield prior to the deadline, Mathurin had moved into a larger role coming out of the All-Star break, but Mathurin's absence for the rest of the season will likely open up more minutes for
Andrew Nembhard,
Aaron Nesmith and
Ben Sheppard on the wing. Mathurin is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2024-25 season and will finish the 2023-24 campaign with averages of 14.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.4 three-pointers in 26.1 minutes per game over 59 appearances.
