Bound for Washington
Wheeler (ankle) announced Wednesday that he has committed to Washington, joining the program as a graduate transfer from Kentucky, Chris Fetters of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wheeler will head to the West Coast for his fifth and final year of collegiate eligibility after two-year stops at Southeastern Conference programs in Georgia and Kentucky. While joining a more competitive Kentucky roster ahead of the 2021-22 season, Wheeler predictably saw his production take a hit, though he still started 43 games during his tenure with the Wildcats. Before an ankle injury sidelined him for the final 11 games of his senior campaign, Wheeler appeared in 21 contests and averaged 7.7 points, 5.6 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 0.7 three-pointers in 28.4 minutes per contest. The 5-foot-9 dynamo will likely settle in as Washington's starting point guard if he's fully recovered from the ankle injury ahead of the 2023-24 season opener.
