Hot and Cold: Hot and Cold (11/4)

This article is part of our Hot and Cold series.

ACC

Hot

North Carolina State quarterback Russell Wilson threw only one touchdown pass in last week's huge victory over Florida State, but he ran for a career-high three scores in the game. Wilson has accounted for at least three touchdowns in all but two games this season.

Boston College running back Montel Harris ran for 449 yards and reached the end zone three times over his last three games. Expect another big performance this week against a Wake Forest team that is ranked 115th in the nation in run defense.

Cold

Over his last three games, Maryland running back Da'Rel Scott racked up just 101 total yards and did not score a touchdown. His production has been up and down this season thanks to a timeshare with Davin Meggett.

Wake Forest quarterback Tanner Price has thrown for just 248 yards over his last two games—both blowout losses. Price has thrown for more than 190 yards in a game just once this season.

Big 12

Hot

Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones has put up huge numbers over the last three weeks. Over that span, Jones has thrown for 1,090 yards and tossed 10 touchdown passes. Expect Jones' pace to continue this week in what should be a shootout with Texas A&M.

Wide receiver Jeff Fuller has stood out in Texas A&M's high-powered passing attack. Fuller has already set career-highs with 55 receptions, 858 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns, eight of which have come in his last five games.

Cold

Iowa State quarterback Austen Arnaud has thrown just two touchdown passes over his last three games and has still not thrown for more than 200 yards in a contest since Week 1.

Texas wide receiver James Kirkendoll scored six touchdowns last season, but he has found the end zone just once this season and has a total of just 101 receiving yards over his last three games.

Big East

Hot

Connecticut running back Jordan Todman has racked up at least 100 total yards in each of the seven games he has appeared in this season and has scored nine touchdowns. He is on pace to run for more than 1,400 yards.

Pittsburgh running back Dion Lewis is still splitting the carries with Ray Graham, but he has run for a touchdown in three straight games and has recorded at least 13 fantasy points in each of those contests.

Cold

West Virginia running back Noel Devine has run for more than 100 yards just once in his last five games and has just three total touchdowns over that span. His overall production has been pretty good, but not what was expected from a player that went very early in most drafts.

Rutgers wide receiver Mohamed Sanu has recorded just 168 total yards over his last three games and has scored just once in that span.

Big Ten

Hot

Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi has recorded three touchdowns in six of his last seven games. Stanzi has a remarkable 19:2 touchdown:interception ratio this season.

Ohio State running back Dan Herron continues to be a touchdown machine. Herron has run for at least one score in each of his last eight games, and he topped the 100-yard mark for the first time in his career last week.

Cold

Michigan wide receiver Roy Roundtree recorded 338 receiving yards and two touchdowns between Weeks 2-through-5, but he has been limited to just 11 receptions for 73 yards and no scores over his last three games.

Wisconsin tight end Lance Kendricks has already set a career-high in receiving yards, but he has been a bit quiet in recent weeks. Kendricks caught just 10 passes for 118 yards over his last four games and did not reach the end zone in that span.

Conference USA

Hot

Houston appears to have found another quarterback capable of matching Case Keenum's production. Freshman David Piland has averaged 277 yards over his last four games and has tossed 11 touchdown passes over that span, including five in a Week 9 victory over Memphis.

SMU wide receiver Aldrick Robinson has recorded either a touchdown or 100 receiving yards, or both, in each of his last seven games. He picked up a season-high 182 yards through the air in Week 9.

Cold

Ryan Williams has held off Cannon Smith for the starting quarterback job at Memphis for most of the season, but after starting 2-of-7 last week, Smith entered the game in the second quarter and played the rest of the way. Williams threw just two touchdown passes over his last four games, so it would not be surprising to see him replaced as the starter this week.

UTEP running back Joseph Banyard put up decent numbers earlier in the season, but the return of Donald Buckram has relegated him to backup duties again. Banyard has run for just 75 yards over his last four games, so do not expect him to be a fantasy factor the rest of the way.

Independents

Hot

Army running back Jared Hassin has put up huge numbers over the last three weeks. Over that span, Hassin has run for 420 yards and four scores; and he has also added six receptions for 98 more yards.

Cold

Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist threw just one touchdown pass in a loss to Navy two weeks ago, and he put up only 29 rushing yards against Tulsa last week before leaving the game with a season-ending knee injury. Freshman Tommy Rees will take over the quarterback duties for the Irish.

MAC

Hot

Ohio quarterback Boo Jackson is not putting up big yardage numbers, but he has been a touchdown machine of late. Over his last four games, Jackson has thrown seven touchdown passes and run for five more.

Temple running back Bernard Pierce has put up at least 100 total yards in each of his last three games and has scored four touchdowns in those contests. Matt Brown is still getting carries, but Pierce seems to be pulling away, finally.

Cold

Central Michigan quarterback Ryan Radcliff is leading the conference in passing yards, but he has been limited to just 310 passing yards over his last two games and has an ugly 2:7 touchdown:interception ratio over his last three.

Akron running back Alex Allen rushed for six touchdowns over his first six games, but he has not scored since Week 6 and has just 130 total yards over that span.

MWC

Hot

Since taking over the primary running back role for Colorado State in Week 6, Leonard Mason has been a fantasy beast. Mason missed the Rams' Week 8 game against Utah, but in the other three games since October 9 he put up totals of 384 yards and five touchdowns.

San Diego State wide receiver DeMarco Sampson has hauled in 18 passes for 408 yards and four scores over his last three games. He is on pace to finish with over 1,200 receiving yards this season.

Cold

UNLV quarterback Omar Clayton has thrown for a total of just 321 yards and one touchdown over his last three games—all big losses for the Runnin' Rebels.

McKay Jacobson was the top returning receiver for BYU coming into this season, but he has not put up the big plays he did a year ago. Jacobson averaged an astounding 24.2 YPC last season and scored four times, but he is averaging just 9.6 YPC in 2010 and has totals of 21 receptions for 201 yards and zero touchdowns.

Pac-10

Hot

Oregon running back LaMichael James has put up at least 148 yards and two touchdowns in each of his last four games, and he picked up at least 200 total yards in three of those contests. James has scored 15 touchdowns in seven games this season.

It is astonishing that both James and Oregon State running back Jacquizz Rodgers, both native Texans, ended up on the far northwest coast. Rodgers has matched James' total of 15 touchdowns from scrimmage while adding a 16th touchdown as a passer.

Cold

Since running for 216 yards in Week 5 against Washington, UCLA running back Johnathan Franklin has rushed for just 167 yards over his last three games, and he has not reached the end zone in any of them.

Washington quarterback Jake Locker appeared to get back on track with a five-touchdown performance in Week 7, but he threw for just 247 yards and one touchdown in the two games since and will miss this week's game with a broken rib.

SEC

Hot

South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia has completed 70.6 percent of his passes this season and has accounted for multiple touchdowns in each of his last six games. Even Steve Spurrier has to be happy with that production.

Knile Davis has taken over the starting running back role for Arkansas and put up at least 100 total yards in each of his last three games. He has run for five touchdowns in the last two weeks.

Cold

Tennessee quarterback Matt Simms threw six touchdown passes in his first four games, but he threw just two in his last four contests and has been replaced as the Volunteers' starter quarterback by freshman Tyler Bray.

Mississippi State wide receiver Chad Bumphis topped the 100-yard mark twice in his first five games, but he has been limited to just 150 receiving yards, 63 rushing yards, and no scores over the last four weeks.

Sun Belt

Hot

Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin continues to be a consistent fantasy producer. Aplin has accounted for multiple touchdowns in all but his first game of the season, and he put up three total scores in a victory over Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday.

Wide receiver Dwayne Frampton has been Aplin's top target this season, but he been especially effective of late. Frampton has hauled in 27 passes over the last four weeks, including six for 138 yards and a score Tuesday.

Cold

Florida International quarterback Wesley Carroll has thrown just two touchdown passes (both in the same game) over his last four contests and he does not run enough to be a fantasy factor at this point.

Jeremiah Harden opened the season as Florida International's starting running back, but he ran for just 226 yards and one touchdown before suffering an injury that kept him out of two straight games. Harden returned to the field last week, but he will likely play a backup role to Kedrick Rhodes going forward after Rhodes ran for 100 yards in Week 9.

WAC

Hot

Louisiana Tech running back Lennon Creer saw only minimal carries in the first few weeks of the season, but he has exploded onto the scene of late. Creer has accounted for at least 100 total yards in four straight games and has scored twice in each of his last three.

Hawaii throws the ball as much as any team in the nation, but that has not stopped running back Alex Green from being a fantasy factor, especially in recent weeks. Over his last four games, Green has run racked up 508 total yards and eight scores.

Cold

Fresno State has won its last two games fairly handily, but quarterback Ryan Colburn has thrown for only 257 yards and one touchdown over those contests. Expect his numbers to be significantly better this week facing Louisiana Tech's 118th-ranked passing defense.

Wide receiver Brandon Wimberly continues to play only a minor role in the Nevada offense after putting up 733 yards and six scores a year ago. Wimberly has yet to score a touchdown and is on pace to finish with fewer than 500 yards this season.
