McDonald hit the ground running after being inserted midway through the third quarter, breaking a 35-yard run on his first rushing attempt. The 5-foot-11 junior went on to score his second rushing touchdown in as many games when he plunged into the end zone on a one-yard score that put Maryland up 42-14. However, eight of McDonald's rushing attempts came while the game was out of reach in the fourth quarter, as he was used to help spare top running backs Roman Hemby (nine carries, 23 yards, two TDs) and Antwain Littleton (nine carries, 28 yards, one TD). McDonald's role as the third-string back may even take a further step back once/if Ramon Brown (undisclosed) makes his season debut.
