Demus looked like one of the Big Ten’s best wideouts in 2021 before he suffered a season-ending knee injury that required surgery in early October. The big-play threat was still able to show his immense potential as he averaged 18.1 yards per catch - the third-highest mark amongst a stacked Big-Ten receivers class last season. Demus also finished second in receiving yards for Maryland last season as he racked up an explosive 507 yards on just 28 receptions through the first five weeks. The Washington D.C. native will once again have to show his value as he competes with a highly talented Terrapins receiving corps, which features returning wideouts Rakim Jarrett, Marcus Fleming and Jeshuan Jones, as well as transfer Jacob Copeland. Demus should still see more than his fair share of attention in Maryland’s prolific passing offense led by quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa.
Demus and Rakim Jarrett combine to form one of the best receiving tandems in the Big Ten, and a pass-happy offense helps elevate both players' floors. While Jarrett is the more highly touted of the two, Demus was the more productive of the two last season, leading the team in every major receiving category. Demus (6-3, 217) has shown dynamic playmaking ability throughout his time at Maryland, having amassed 78 catches for 1,268 yards and 10 touchdowns on 149 targets in three seasons. Jarrett may go earlier in some drafts based on perceived upside, but Demus is a nice value who provides a high floor in the Terrapin offense.
Demus led the way for Maryland in what wound up being a season to forget in the passing game. He finished the year with a 24.8 target share on 82 targets, hauling in just half of those to finish the year with 41 grabs for 625 yards and six scores. With some intriguing wideouts set to join (five-star freshman Rakim Jarrett) or rejoin (Jeshaun Jones -- missed last year with an ACL tear) the Terps’ passing attack, it’s questionable whether or not Demus will maintain such a high percentage. Of course, improved play from Josh Jackson at the quarterback position could increase the efficiency when the ball heads Demus’ way.
