Diagnosed with brain cancer
LSU announced Wednesday that Brooks has been diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, Wilson Alexander of The New Orleans Advocate reports.
ANALYSIS
Brooks' diagnosis comes after he underwent surgery Sept. 20 to remove a tumor from his brain. While Brooks' surgery was deemed successful, his speech and ability to communicate have been affected. On a fortunate note, Brooks is responsive and working daily with physical therapy, and his cancer hasn't spread to other parts of his body. The 22-year-old safety had appeared in LSU's first two games before missing LSU's Sept. 16 win over Mississippi due to what head coach Brian Kelly initially termed as a "medical emergency."
