Lands at Nebraska
Sims announced Sunday via his personal Twitter account that he has committed to Nebraska, joining the program as a transfer from Georgia Tech.
ANALYSIS
Sims arrives at Nebraska will ample experience at quarterback, after he started in 23 of his 24 career appearances at Georgia Tech across the past three seasons. During that time, Sims completed 57.5 percent of his passes for 4,464 yards, 30 touchdowns and 23 interceptions while adding 1,166 yards and 11 scores on the ground. He'll have up to two years of eligibility to use beginning in 2023 and should be part of what will likely be a wide-open quarterback competition for the Cornhuskers with first-year head coach Matt Rhule at the helm. Incumbent starter Casey Thompson has yet to decide if he'll stick around at Nebraska in 2023, transfer elsewhere or embark on a professional career, while Chubba Purdy (ankle) could be part of the competition. Sims' 2022 season came to an end early due to a foot sprain, but the injury isn't expected to affect his availability for spring workouts.

Jahan Dotson should be poised for another breakout effort Saturday with starter Sean Clifford back under center and a Michigan State pass defense on the schedule allowing the most yards per game in the nation.

C.J. Stroud will likely get most of the fanfare Saturday, and rightly so, but Kenny Pickett has his own matchup to salivate over and could be a great pairing with some affordable opportunities at other spots.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
Jeff Sims, a former four-star recruit, started all of the Jackets’ 10 games as a freshman and is poised to take a step forward in 2021. There were flashes of brilliance last season, and flashes of learning opportunities, as Sims completed 54.9 percent of his throws while tossing an equal 13 touchdowns and interceptions. The real appeal from Sims came from his dual threat ability, rushing 120 times for 492 yards and six scores, though it’s fair to question whether the Jackets want Sims to run more or less this season. They hit the transfer portal hard for offensive linemen, and have a very capable stable of running backs led by Jahmyr Gibbs and Jordan Mason, which could keep Sims in the pocket more, running only as necessary. Sims topped 250 yards only once last season, and while growth as a passer is expected, the Jackets are only in Year 2 of a non-option offense. There’s limited firepower out wide, and Sims may be a year away from a full breakout as a result.
