Carries Wildcats to win in Music City Bowl
January 3, 2018
Jackson rushed 32 times for 157 yards and two touchdowns during the team's Music City Bowl victory over Kentucky, adding a catch of 10 yards.
ANALYSIS
Jackson ended his Northwestern career displaying the ability that made him a four-year starter for the Wildcats. He went over 1,000 yards in each of the four campaigns, totaling 5,440 yards and 41 touchdowns on 1,142 carries during that span. It wouldn't be surprising to see him selected in the mid-to-late rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft, depending on how he tests at the combine and/or his pro day.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2017
2016
Jackson's never been the most explosive player on what have been sluggish Northwestern offenses the last three years, but he's been incredibly consistent. Even without much help around him, Jackson heads into his senior year with 4,129 yards and 30 touchdowns in his career, and the progress of quarterback Clayton Thorson could give Jackson his most favorable setting yet in 2017. After Northwestern totaled just 18 passing touchdowns from 2014 to 2015, Thorson broke out for 22 touchdowns last year, which surely set the stage for Jackson's career-high 15 rushing scores.
Derrick Henry and Christian McCaffrey led the nation in carries last season with 395 and 337, respectively. The third-leading rusher in terms of workload? Surely you guessed Justin Jackson at 312 carries, right? While Jackson isn’t in the same stratosphere as Henry or McCaffrey, he’s still an excellent back with about as solid of a guaranteed workload as you’ll find coming into the season. He averaged 4.54 yards per carry, which is tied for the lowest among the running backs in the top 10 in terms of carries, but that’s still not a bad mark overall considering some of the defenses he faced such as Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin. In fact, he ran all over Wisconsin’s fourth-rated run defense for 139 yards and a score. His touchdown efficiency may look concerning given that he only scored five rushing touchdowns on so many carries, but that number is so low that it’s almost guaranteed to progress towards the mean. Furthermore, he ended last season on a scoring streak, posting touchdowns in each of his last four games. The line in front of Jackson figures to improve as well given that the Wildcats have several returning starters up front. Look for the Northwestern offense to lean on Jackson to key the offense, especially considering the long learning curve Clayton Thorson exhibited as a freshman in 2015.
