2022 Receiving Projections
2022 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson enters the 2022 season listed as the No. 1 wideout on Iowa’s spring roster. While this might be surprising given the sophomore receiver’s relatively pedestrian 18 receptions from last year, Johnson was able to make the most of these opportunities. The former four-star recruit averaged 19.6 yards per catch and saw his targets increase considerably as the season progressed, averaging 7.7 targets over his last six games played in 2021. Johnson’s opportunities should continue to increase during his sophomore season after the Hawkeyes lost two of their top five receiving-yardage leaders from last season; though, Iowa's spotty quarterback play could limit the wideout's ultimate production. Commits to K State
Johnson announced he will transfer to Kansas State this offseason.
ANALYSIS
Johnson was one of two Iowa receivers to enter the transfer portal following the 2022 regular season. The 6-foot-1 sophomore was a four-star prospect coming out of high school in Nebraska, and he was a finalist for Big Ten Freshman of the Year after accumulating 18 receptions (on 56 targets) for 352 yards and two touchdowns in 2021. However, he battled injury this season and was limited to just two appearances in the Hawkeyes' stagnant passing offense. Johnson will now carry three more seasons of remaining eligibility, and he'll likely have a chance to step up into a big role with Wildcats' starting wideouts Phillip Brooks, Malik Knowles and Kade Warner all expected to move on following the 2022 campaign, according to Drew Galloway of On3.com.
