Zach Wilcke

The Golden Eagles moved from Conference USA to the Sun Belt, but one thing remained the same. Namely, issues at quarterback. Head coach Will Hall decided to give true freshman Wilcke a chance and he was, um, fine. He made eight appearances and completed 57.4 percent of his passes for 1,163 yards, nine touchdowns, and nine interceptions. Freshman mistakes were made, to be sure, but he did will enough that the depth chart behind him cleared out during the offseason. There is a backup plan at backup quarterback in Clemson transfer Billy Wiles, but he’s no vaunted recruit looking for playing time, as Wiles was a walk on for Clemson. At the moment, this seems like Wilcke’s gig, but he obviously has to show more as a sophomore. The growing pains have to be in the past, or Wiles could get a shot under center. Read Past Outlooks
