2023 Fantasy Outlook
Ocon returns to Alpine in 2023 after a relatively successful 2022 season. He finished eighth in the standings, equaling his best season performance since his first full-time season in 2017. His average finish in the 22 races was 9.1 despite an average start of 12.0. His best finish came late in the year at Suzuka. Ocon's consistent points finishes along with that fourth-place Suzuka finish late in the season demonstrate Alpine's ability to continue extracting speed throughout the course of the season. A big question for 2023 will be how much of that car development is lost with former champion Fernando Alonso leaving the team. However, a focus for Ocon personally will be improving his single-lap pace in qualifying. Rebounds to Points at Abu Dhabi
Ocon finished seventh in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix Formula 1 race at the Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday evening.
ANALYSIS
Despite losing a spot on the opening lap, Ocon would parlay a good qualifying effort into a points performance in Abu Dhabi. The Haas F1 veteran would run a very long opening stint and pit out of P3 on lap 19. That would seem to anchor him into good track position. Ocon would execute a one-stop strategy on an evening when most would use two stops. That would allow him to race back up through the field and with a late pit stop by Lance Stroll, Ocon would promote into P7. He would hold off Lewis Hamilton down the stretch to secure the strong seventh-place finish and 6 points.
