JaMycal Hasty

Hasty was claimed off waivers by the Jaguars from the 49ers at the end of training camp last year, and he finished the 2022 campaign as Jacksonville's No. 2 tailback. The Baylor product, who turns 27 in September, carried 46 times for 194 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games, and he also caught 20 passes for 126 yards and another score. Travis Etienne remains Jacksonville's clear-cut No. 1 running back, and the team selected Tank Bigsby during the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Hasty also saw action on special teams, which should help him retain his spot on the roster even if Bigsby is able to take hold of the secondary backfield role.

Hasty was beset by injuries in 2021 - he had six DNPs - but even when he was active he primarily handled special-teams and third-down duties. The 25-year-old appeared in 11 regular-season games and saw his usage as a receiver increase from seven catches in 2020 to 23 last year. Hasty enters 2022 buried on a revamped running back depth chart in San Francisco, with rookie third-rounder Ty Davis-Price joining starter Elijah Mitchell, Jeff Wilson and Trey Sermon, so he will have to earn his spot in camp.

Hasty racked up 181 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown in a limited role across eight games in 2020. The undrafted Baylor product flashed his shiftiness and ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Those qualities would have been fine for him to compete for a third-down role this year, but San Francisco drafted two backs in the draft and also signed veteran Wayne Gallman to replace the departed Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon, making Hasty a long shot to even crack the final roster.

Hasty was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent during the 2020 offseason. The 23-year-old is a dynamic back who averaged 5.8 yards per carry in his senior year at Baylor. Hasty also averaged 25.3 receptions in a limited role over his final three college campaigns, highlighting his ability to contribute as a third-down/change of pace back. The top of San Francisco's depth chart is fairly set with Raheem Mostert, Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon, so Hasty will likely land on the team's practice squad if he impresses the organization during training camp.
