Leg
August 21, 2025
McGary (leg) will miss time due to the injury he sustained in practice Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
McGary doesn't have a return timetable and his injury is being described as an "apparent leg injury," so details of the situation are still murky. That said, the starting right tackle can definitively be ruled out for Friday's preseason finale against Dallas, and his status for the Sept. 7 season opener against the Buccaneers is up in the air.

A 2019 first-round pick, McGary will start at right tackle for the Falcons again in 2024. He missed three games due to an MCL sprain last season.
A 2019 first-round pick, McGary had his fifth-year option declined ahead of 2022, but he went on to have a solid showing at right tackle and earned a three-year, $34.5 million extension this offseason. The 28-year-old has missed only three games in four years.
McGary projects to be the Falcons' starting right tackle to open 2022, but Atlanta declined his fifth-year option this offseason, which is a sign that the Falcons are looking to replace the 2019 first-round pick in the near future.
McGary played in 14 games for the Falcons in 2021, missing two games due to an injury and a family emergency. Atlanta drafted offensive tackle Jalen Mayfield in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but he is unlikely to be a problem for the third-year right tackle since Mayfield is expected to be moved to guard at the NFL level. Barring injury, McGary should once again fill the role of protecting Matt Ryan's right side.
