Tony Jones

25-Year-Old Running BackRB
New Orleans Saints
2023 Fantasy Outlook
After playing in both New Orleans and Seattle in 2022, the Broncos signed Jones to a one-year deal this offseason. The 25-year-old played in six games last season, rushing just 10 times for 24 yards and reeling in five catches for 30 yards. Jones will be reunited with Denver's new head coach Sean Payton, who he played under while both were with the Saints. The 5-11, 224-pounder slots in as a depth option in the running back room behind both Javonte Williams and Samaje Perine, but Jones' familiarity with the offensive system should help him to carve out a third-string role with his new team. Jones was cut by the Broncos at the end of training camp and signed to the Saints practice squad. Read Past Outlooks

Rotates carries with Miller
RBNew Orleans Saints
September 24, 2023
Jones tallied eight carries for 31 yards and caught all four targets for 21 yards during Sunday's 18-17 defeat versus Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
Jones split carries with rookie running back Kendre Miller (nine) during Alvin Kamara's final week of a three-game suspension. As a result, the 25-year-old made his biggest offensive impact for the Saints since his sophomore campaign in 2021. Jones was still limited to just 3.9 yards per carry, and he did not record a rush longer than seven yards. However, he did record three more targets than Miller, as the veteran appears to be the preferred back on third downs. Jamaal Williams (hamstring), who served as New Orleans' starting running back for the first two games of the season, was placed on injured reserve Saturday and will now be sidelined until at least Week 7. In the meantime, Jones seems set to serve the Saints' third-string running back behind Kamara and Miller.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2022
2021
Jones will enter the 2022 campaign competing for the backup running back role behind starter Alvin Kamara. However, with Mark Ingram still under contract, it's likely that Jones will have to beat out the veteran for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. The 24-year-old totaled 52 carries for 142 yards and five catches for 29 yards in 11 games during the 2021 season. If Ingram can't hold up at age 32, Jones has a shot to see an increased role this coming season behind Kamara.
Jones, a 2020 UDFA out of Notre Dame, spent most of his rookie season on the Saints' practice squad and now hopes to win a roster spot in Year 2. Reports out of camp suggest he made a strong bid, perhaps even unseating Latavius Murray in the No. 2 role.
