2022 Fantasy Outlook
After a weird 2020 campaign that saw Detroit's then-inept coaching staff lead one of the worst statistical defenses in league history, Walker was back to his high-performing self in 2021 under Dan Cambell. Notching triple-digit tackles for the second time in three years, the 27-year-old Walker remains firmly in his prime and could reach even greater heights in 2022 thanks to Detroit's up-and-coming defensive line led by No. 2 overall draft pick Aidan Hutchinson. Achilles
February 4, 2023
Walker (Achilles) recently suggested via his personal Twitter account that he will be ready for the Lions' offseason training program this spring.
ANALYSIS
After tearing his Achilles in late September, it would be an impressive feat for Walker to make it back for the start of offseason workouts. Even if the Lions' coaching staff has different plans for its standout safety, it at least seems that Walker could be available well before the start of the 2023 season opener.

Matt Patricia messed with Walker's playing time a bit last year and a midseason foot injury disrupted him further, but he still managed to put together a respectable box score in the abbreviated showing. Walker likely is limited in coverage and best suited to a box safety role, where his ability to pile up tackles can be useful. So long as he plays 850 snaps or more he should provide DB2 utility in most IDP formats, because he made 87 tackles on just 755 snaps last year and needed only 851 snaps to produce 103 tackles in 2019.
Walker might be somewhat hard-pressed to maintain last year's tackle volume - 103 tackles on 851 snaps - but that's a sample more than three times bigger than when he posted only 21 tackles with 267 defensive snaps the year prior. Not just that, but he posted at least five tackles in all of his 13 games in 2019, including nine with seven or more tackles and three with double-digit tackles. With eight passes defended otherwise, Walker might be a candidate to produce more interceptions after posting just one last year. Even if Walker's production fluctuates a bit relative to 2019, there's still DB1 upside here that might be overlooked.
Walker, the Lions' third-round pick in 2018, was viewed by many as reach on draft day and hasn't made much of an impact in training camp or the preseason. Likely to be a mainstay on special teams this season, Walker is best left on the waiver wire in all IDP formats.
