Around the Rink
A lot of Penguins fans took exception to NBCSN's Mike Milbury statement Sunday that Flyers fans should be "ecstatic" Evgeni Malkin will likely miss the remainder of the regular season with an upper-body injury – likely some sort of hand or wrist ailment.
Milbury says and does a lot of crazy stuff, but I have no problem with what he said about Malkin and his value to Pittsburgh. He's right. The road to the postseason got a lot tougher without the team's second-leading scorer.
For his part, Milbury has done some pretty crazy stuff over his career – see below – but Sunday's comments probably don't rank among Milbury's Top 10 list.
Finally, here's a photo of the NHL's 27th leading point-getter at age eight. How can anybody not love Jaromir Jagr? Well, except for opposing goalies.
Wonder if 8 y.o. Jagr could've imagined what his 44 y.o. self would be doing. pic.twitter.com/Fj91TwvBeX

Hot
Alec Martinez, D, LOS – Martinez has a goal and six points in his last seven games. He's also dished out 17 hits and blocked 23 shots over the same span. Martinez has scored only six goals and 28 points in 67 games, but he's producing nicely right now. The Los Angeles blueliner is available in 54 percent of Yahoo! Leagues. The Kings play six times in the next nine days, though the matchups include the likes of Chicago and Dallas.
Sam Gagner, C, PHI – Dave's son never turned into the superstar many expected him to become. He compiled 49 points as an 18-year-old rookie in 2007-08 and never again reached that number. Bouncing around, he's simply trying to reestablish himself in Philadelphia after a season with the Coyotes. He's still got a long way to go, but he's been hot lately. Gagner has scored five goals and seven points in his last 10 games. The Flyers are desperately attempting to stay in postseason contention and Gagner has become a part of that hunt.
Cold
Tyler Toffoli, RW, LOS -- Selfishly, I want to use Victor Hedman (one assist in 12 games) as my cold player but saw Joe Mahoney snapped him for Sunday's Daily Puck. If there's a better way to get a cold player out of a slump than to put him on the cold list, I don't know what it is. Toffoli hasn't been much better. The versatile forward has gone without scoring in 10 straight games, with one goal in his last 13. This isn't a recommendation to sell Toffoli, just a note that he hasn't been producing. The 23-year-old needs only three points to tie his career high in points (49) and figures to turn things around before season's end.
Recommended Pickup
Jussi Jokinen, LW, FLA – Jokinen might not be a sexy pickup but he just keeps producing. Florida plays four times in the coming week, including three on the road, but doesn't face any elite teams. For his part, Jokinen has strung together a 10-game point streak (two goals, 10 assists). The Panthers' "other" JJ is available in 61 percent of Yahoo! Leagues. While it's true that players with 10-game point streaks are usually closer to the end than the beginning, there's no reason why fantasy owners shouldn't be running out the string.
