Crowded out of lineup
MacDermid has played in just two of the Devils' last 22 games after being scratched Saturday versus the Wild.
ANALYSIS
MacDermid doesn't stand much of a chance at getting playing time unless the Devils rest their regulars once they clinch a playoff spot. The 31-year-old is one of 15 healthy forwards on the roster, and Cody Glass (undisclosed) is day-to-day. MacDermid has not recorded a point in 22 appearances, adding 23 PIM and 38 hits while averaging just 5:40 of ice time per game as an old-school enforcer.

MacDermid had two goals, one assist, 16 shots on net and 83 hits in 45 regular-season games between Colorado and New Jersey last year. He signed a three-year, $3.45 million contract in May to remain with the Devils. The 30-year-old has logged time as a defenseman in the NHL but has recently become a full-time forward. MacDermid has never been an offensive contributor, registering only 11 goals and 31 points across 265 contests. He plays a physical role but doesn't receive much ice time, and his spot in the lineup isn't guaranteed. As such, there are likely better options for fantasy managers seeking hits or penalty minutes. Still, in a pinch, he could be worth utilizing.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Closing in on return
MacDermid, who has been out with a lower-body injury, may return to action during the Devils' next four games, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Monday.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Travis Green wouldn't give a definitive return date for MacDermid, but it certainly seems he will be back sooner rather than later. Even with the 30-year-old winger's injury concerns behind him, he is far from a lock for the lineup and could serve as a healthy scratch periodically. When he does play, MacDermid is averaging a meager 4:06 of ice time per game with the Devils, so fantasy managers shouldn't be counting on him for much of anything.
