2025 Fantasy Outlook
Ekblad re-signed with the team that drafted him first overall in 2014, inking an eight-year deal at $6.1 million per season, and that feels like a bargain for what he can bring to the table. Even with the addition of Seth Jones, Ekblad was the power-play quarterback during the postseason and a great source of offense from the back end, producing 13 points in 19 postseason games. The 29-year-old will hope to stay on the ice consistently this season; he’s only played over 70 games once since the 2019-20 season. If he can, it will be worth monitoring how the Panthers manage the ice time split with him and Jones, both right-shot defensemen, but the edge seems to go to Ekblad for the ice time and better situations offensively. He has all the tools to get back over the 40-point plateau this season if he stays healthy. Read Past Outlooks
Plates pair of helpers
Ekblad supplied two assists and put two shots on net in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Senators.
ANALYSIS
Ekblad slid the lone helper on Evan Rodrigues' power-play goal in the first period before picking up a second assist on Gustav Forsling's game-winning goal early in the third. With the pair of apples, Ekblad now has 15 assists, 18 points, 62 shots on net, 53 hits and 70 blocks through 43 appearances this season. Since Dec. 15, he has four multi-point performances and has started to hit his stride offensively. The 29-year-old blueliner should continue to see more opportunities to create on offense with Seth Jones (upper body) on injured reserve for the time being. Ekblad is a strong waiver-wire pickup across most fantasy formats.

Ekblad's year got off to a late start following summer shoulder surgery and he then missed significant time during the season. All told, he appeared in just 51 games, managing four goals and 18 points. The lack of production was directly related to a decreased role with the man advantage. Ekblad averaged just 1:26 of power-play time per game, down from the 3:17 he saw the year prior. With Brandon Montour off to Seattle as a free agent, Ekblad should have a good chance to reclaim his role as the quarterback of Florida's vaunted top power-play unit, but rising star Gustav Forsling is also expected to be considered for the role.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Finalizing deal with Cats
Ekblad and the Panthers appear to be closing in on a new contract that will keep the blueliner in Florida, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Ekblad racked up 33 points, including 11 with the man advantage, in 56 regular-season contests this year. The defenseman is reportedly going to sign a long-term deal with the club, which would likely see the 29-year-old close out his career with the Cats. With Ekblad and Sam Bennett both re-signing, Florida looks well poised to make another deep Stanley Cup run.
