Signs two-year pact
Gaudette agreed to terms on a two-year, $4 million contract with San Jose on Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Gaudette was reportedly close to staying with Ottawa but evidently found better terms in San Jose. This will be the 28-year-old center's fifth NHL team in his eight-year NHL career. The Massachusetts native fell one goal shy of reaching the 20 mark last year over 81 regular-season games, and he could be in contention to challenge that threshold again in 2025-26 if he can earn a middle-six role.

Gaudette's 2019-20 mini-breakout (12 goals, 33 points, 12 power-play points in 59 games) seems like a thing of the past on the heels of a 2020-21 season which saw him post career-low numbers (five goals, 11 points in 40 games) in addition to a late-season trade from Vancouver to Chicago. The Blackhawks will welcome back Jonathan Toews and Kirby Dach on a full-time basis this coming year, in addition to acquiring Tyler Johnson in a deal with Tampa Bay, further pushing Gaudette down the depth chart. There isn't much to like here from a fantasy perspective.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Deal not imminent
Gaudette and the Senators continue to talk, but it looks like he will become a free agent Tuesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Gaudette came up just one goal shy of reaching the 20-mark during the 2024-25 regular season, setting a new personal best. Considering this was just the second time the 28-year-old center topped 20 points in a season, there may be a disconnect between his asking price and what the Senators are willing to offer. Still, Gaudette figures to draw interest when the market opens Tuesday and likely won't have to wait long for a new contract.
