2025 Fantasy Outlook
Pelech once again dealt with his share of injuries this past season -- that has become a trend, as his only year without missing a game is the shortened 2020-21 campaign. A defensive specialist, Pelech had zero goals but collected 21 assists, 109 shots on goal, 87 blocks and a plus-4 rating over 60 appearances in 2024-25. The left-shot blueliner will continue to see top-four minutes in 2025-26, but he’s a non-factor with the man advantage. Pelech led the Islanders in secondary assists (17) and was tied for the team lead in takeaways (36) last season, so his ability to break up plays and transition the puck up the ice helps him get on the scoresheet every few games. With that being said, he makes for nothing more than an extremely late dart throw in fantasy drafts, particularly in formats that account for blocked shots. Read Past Outlooks

Cleared for camp practices
Pelech (undisclosed) participated in Thursday's practice, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Gross, Pelech is wearing a shield to protect his jaw after taking a puck to the mouth recently. The defenseman also told reporters he is fully healthy and ready to play, so the jaw shield appears to just be a precaution. He plays a physically taxing style and has missed over 20 games in each of the last three seasons, though he should be a regular in the lineup when healthy. Pelech had 21 points (all assists) with 87 blocked shot and 73 hits in 60 regular-season games in 2024-25.

A key cog on the blue line for the Islanders, Pelech's season was completely derailed by an upper-body injury which cost him more than six weeks in the middle of the year. He appeared in just 58 games, posting a single goal and 16 points, his lowest mark in the past three seasons. Pelech is an elite penalty killer and one of the best stay-at-home defenders in the NHL, but he has never posted more than 28 points in any one season and his hit and blocked shot totals are middling for a defender. You can almost certainly do better on draft day.
