2025 Fantasy Outlook
Go back to 2015, and Connor McDavid was expected to outperform Eichel -- their order of first and second overall in that year’s draft wasn’t surprising -- but the fact that McDavid nearly doubled Eichel’s regular-season point total from 2015-16 through 2023-24 (982 to 514) would have raised eyebrows had that been known on draft day. Eichel hasn’t been a bust, but he’s dealt with plenty of injuries. From 2016-17 through 2023-24, Eichel had just one season in which he played at least 70 games, but he appeared in 77 regular-season games last year and racked up 28 goals and 94 points. Eichel is an elite forward and still in his prime, but his injury history is concerning. Under ideal circumstances, he can repeat his 2024-25 totals, but it seems more realistic to expect 60-70 points to account for the possibility that he’ll miss a chunk of time during the upcoming season. Pots goal in shootout loss
Eichel scored a goal on three shots in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Senators.
ANALYSIS
Eichel's point streak is up to four games (three goals, four assists). The 29-year-old center helped the Golden Knights form a comeback Wednesday, scoring early in the second period. For the season, he has 11 goals, 31 points, 94 shots on net and a plus-4 rating through 23 appearances in a top-line role. Eichel should continue to be the centerpiece of Vegas' offense, though the team can roll three strong lines now that Mark Stone is back from a wrist injury.

Roughly nine years after they were drafted, we can safely say the gap between 2015 No. 1 overall pick Connor McDavid and No. 2 selection Eichel is massive in terms of raw offensive production, but the 27-year-old Eichel has still proven to be a star in his own right. Injuries have unfortunately held him back, though. Dating back to 2018-19, Eichel is in a three-way tie for 21st in points per game at 1.02, but because of how much time he's missed over that span, he's not even in the top 50 in terms of total points. In fact, Eichel has reached the 70-game mark just twice in his career. In that context, the American center being limited to 63 regular-season outings in 2023-24 isn't terribly surprising, though he was his typical effective self when available, providing 31 goals and 68 points. His injury history balanced against his tremendous skill makes him a high-risk, high-reward choice on draft day.
