2025 Fantasy Outlook
Opinions on Schmid are likely to be divided heading into 2025-26. He struggled heavily for a bottom-dwelling AHL team, going 9-18-3 with a 3.58 GAA and a .886 save percentage over 30 games. However, behind the Golden Knights' defense, Schmid was 2-0-1 with a 1.26 GAA and a .944 save percentage over five games, four of which were in April. He's nothing more than a deep-league option in fantasy currently, but if he can win the backup job in training camp, he'll be an intriguing option for fantasy managers who have to dig deep for goalie depth. Schmid was promising at times with the Devils over the previous three years, so there is a little potential for him to become an NHL regular at age 25. Read Past Outlooks

2023
The 6-foot-five Schmid arrived via trade in the offseason on the heels of a 5-9-1, 3.15 GAA and .895 save percentage season in New Jersey. His numbers will trend up in Vegas' tight defensive structure, even if he doesn't improve his weaknesses. Schmid could quickly improve his rebound control, glove hand and readiness in the net under goaltending director and former big-man NHLer, Sean Burke. Schmid is down the Vegas depth chart with the arrival of Ilya Samsonov and will likely start in the AHL, but NHL games are likely and maybe more if Sammy struggles at all.

ANALYSIS
Schmid logged 19 NHL games this season in which he went 5-9-1 with a 3.15 GAA and .895 save percentage. While rosters haven't been finalized for the tournament, Schmid is the only backstop with NHL experience and should be in the mix for the starting gig when Switzerland faces Norway on May 10.
